Hallhill Community Garden Project

Site of Dunbar Community Garden Site of Dunbar Community Garden Site of Dunbar Community Garden

The project aims to develop a fallow site between Hallhill Steading and Moray Avenue, Dunbar, as a community garden, growing fruit, vegetables and flowers for the benefit of the community.

A steering group has been set up led by Dr Colin Will, retired senior manager at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, and a current Director of the Amisfield Preservation Trust, which is developing an 18th century walled garden in Haddington as a community garden and visitor attraction.

The site owner has agreed to sell the ground to East Lothian Council for a penny, and the Council will then lease the ground to a voluntary body to manage it as a community garden.

The proposals are also supported by Dunbar Community Council

Since then I have prepared a concept diagram to indicate some of the ideas proposed for a community garden:

There is no doubt that some of these could be made at the same time, and some may take longer to achieve than others.
